Bataburo Lodge
Tourist Class

In the middle of the untouched rainforest of the Ecuadorian Amazon basin we find our Lodge Bataburo, which offers all the necessary comfort without loosing the adventurous spirit. The Lodge is located 90 kilometres southeast from the town of Coca (Puerto Francisco de Orellana) on the river Tiguino. Here we find the mystical and wild heart of the primary rainforest. Together with the organization of the Huaorani villages, the ONHAE, we agreed to build the Bataburo Lodge in their ancestral land.

The Bataburo Lodge has been built in the style of the indigenous Amazon people, in complete harmony with the surrounding jungle.

The accommodations are in double and triple rooms with shared facilities, mosquito-nets and electricity (110V). A smaller cabin offers two double rooms with private facilities.

In the main cabaña, which serves as bar / dining room, is a space to relax in hammocks and enjoy the view of our lagoon "Amaruncocha", which is right behind the lodge.

Detailed 7 nights/ 8 days program *

ADVENTUROUS TOUR ON THE RIVERS TIGUINO - CONONACO INTO THE HUAORANI TERRITORY

(7 NIGHTS-8 DAYS)

Navigating in a motorized canoe on the river Tiguino in the middle of the most untouched and dense rainforest in Ecuador; paying attention on the hikes to explanations from the guides about the flora and fauna; listening in the tents to the nightly noises in the forest; learning in the remote Huaorani -village about their ancient and traditional culture: this is our adventurous tour into the Huaorani - Territory.

1.Day.- Reception by our staff in the town of Coca ( Francisco de Orellana), ride by bus to the Huaorani-village Tiguino, situated in the Pastaza Province, Lunch, navigation downstream in canoe by motor on the Tiguino river. On the way, we have the opportunity to see many different birds, as sometimes parrots, toucans and also monkeys. In the Lodge, the guide explains the program of the next days, then a Welcome cocktail and Dinner.

Day 2 After breakfast we navigate the Tiguino River downstream to its mouth with the river Cononaco and we follow it until we arrive at the Huaorani village of Bameno . It takes at least seven hours to get there and on the way we have lunch on a sandy beach. We build up our camp close to the village and have dinner.

Day 3 In the morning we accompany several Huaorani into the forest for a longer walk. They show us how they use the different plants to build their houses and their weapons and their use as medicine plants. The option also exists to join them on a traditional hunt with their blowpipe and with curare poisoned darts. In the afternoon we visit a hidden oxbow lake for sport fishing. Return to the camp and dinner.

Day 4 Early in the morning we drift the river down and hopefully have the possibility to observe different birds and mammals. After breakfast we visit the whole village and learn about their culture and way of life. The Huaorani have been in contact with our civilization for only a few decades and try to hold on to their traditions, but can not stop all the inventions and problems of our culture. After lunch we go fishing or play a football game against almost the whole village of Bameno .

Day 5 After breakfast we break down our camp and navigate more of the river downstream to a new campground. Afterwards we go on a hike where the guides explain more about the complex system of the rainforest. In the afternoon we have some time to relax and we create our own handicrafts in the Huaorani style such as necklaces and crowns. In the night we navigate on the river and search for caimans and other nocturnal animals

Day 6 Early in the morning we drift the river down and hopefully have the possibility to observe different birds and mammals. After the breakfast we walk to a saltlick, a place where the mammals and birds come to eat the mineral soil. In the afternoon sport fishing for piranhas.

Day 7 Today during the day we return to the Lodge Bataburo. There we go rowing with the canoe in the oxbow lake. Time to relax and dinner.

Day 8 Very early in the morning we make a little hike to observe birds and mammals (option). After breakfast we pack up our equipment and navigate the river Tiguino upstream. On the way we have lunch on a sandy beach. On the bridge our bus is waiting for us and we arrive at approx. 04:30 pm. back in Coca.
